QuNET - Quantum Technologies for Secure Networks and Communication

The QuNET initiative aims at developing highly secure communication systems based on state-of-the-art quantum technology with a focus on federal government communication to ensure long-term data security. As a research initiative funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research BMBF, QuNET helps to create the basis for secure and robust IT networks to withstand future cyberattacks.
QuNET focuses on research in the field of quantum key distribution (QKD). In QKD, keys for data encryption are generated and shared using light and the laws of quantum mechanics. With this
technology every eavesdropping attempt can be immediately detected, and the secure channel is interrupted.
